Raleigh, NC Pest Control

Raleigh is the capital of the state of North Carolina, and this big, beautiful city is filled with an abundance of cultural, educational and historic sites. These include the North Carolina Museum of Art, the North Carolina Museum of History, the North Carolina Symphony and North Carolina State University, which is the largest public university in the entire state. It's definitely a wonderful place to work, raise a family and attend school, but Raleigh's humid, subtropical climate also makes it attractive to a great many ants that often make life less than pleasant for area residents. Here at State Pest Control, we're regularly called upon to deal with infestations of several different ants in homes and businesses throughout Raleigh.

Carpenter Ants

These are the largest nuisance ants in the entire state, and your home may be invaded by colonies that contain thousands of individuals. This is bad news because carpenter ants are capable of causing serious structural damage to your home. While they don't eat wood like a termite, these ants do destroy wood by chewing it up as they make their tunnels and nesting areas. It's not unusual for a colony of carpenter ants to destroy the inside of a home's walls before the residents even realize that they're present. Carpenter ants can also deliver an extremely painful bite when disturbed.

Fire Ants

These ants rarely come indoors, but they're a particularly nasty ant that you don't want residing in your yard. If you see large mounds of dirt throughout your outdoor space, then you should suspect the presence of fire ants. A large colony may house as many as 250,000 individuals, and these ants are extremely active and aggressive. Any animal or person is at risk because fire ants use their mandibles to get a good grip before repeatedly using their stinger to inject venom into their victim. It's an extremely painful sting that may prove fatal in some cases.

Argentine Ants

While these ants certainly aren't as destructive or dangerous as the other ants listed above, you may find yourself overwhelmed by a colony that contains millions of individuals. Argentine ants generally prefer to make their home outdoors, but they'll march right inside of your home in search of food. Though they prefer sweets, these ants aren't really particular about their diet. They'll be happy to eat the food in your pet's dish or any other food that has been left out.
